Kyomi Hastings Duncan

Kyomi Hastings Duncan is the Associate Registrar and Director of Admissions & Student Recruitment, University of Toronto Scarborough.

Kyomi has worked at the University of Toronto in the field of admissions and student recruitment since 2000, and believes it is imperative for all learners from marginalized and racialized groups to see themselves reflected in post-secondary education.  As a settler to this land, immigrating from Guyana, growing up in Scarborough, and attending high school in the Malvern neighborhood, Kyomi brings her lived experiences into the work she does and uses this as a catalyst to continue to advocate for change within our educational system.

As Director of Admissions & Student Recruitment, Kyomi is responsible for ensuring all prospective students see U of T Scarborough as a community in which they belong, and a community in which they have the agency to define one’s own idea of success. In a role which blends public relations, marketing and communications, with application assessments, career counselling and academic advising, Kyomi leads a team of professionals to embed diversity, equity and inclusion into all aspects of the student recruitment and admissions process.  Instrumental in supporting the launch of two access and outreach programs, the Transitional Year Program / TYP@UTSC and the SEE U of T Scarborough program, Kyomi’s efforts in enacting anti-oppressive practices extend beyond her involvement with the Office of the Registrar, for she has served in an advisory capacity on several university committees and is a member of the leadership team for the UTSC Connections & Conversations Affinity Group for Racialized Staff.
